Internal reform recycling During a cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister K. Mitsotakis, on Tuesday, Environment and Energy Minister Theodoros Skylakakis notes the draft law of the Ministry of Environment and Energy to modernize waste management.
The main pillars of the reform are:
- implementation of a unified nationwide guarantee system from the end of 2025 plastic bottles and aluminum bottles, with more than 15,000 points where the consumer can return the bottles and get the cost of the guarantee,
- Provision of separate collection service for recyclable and bio-waste in small island and mountain municipalities with a population of less than 10,000 and provision of equipment for the rest,
- With the aim of introducing a new business plan, including the regulation of alternative management issues, the collection of recyclable materials by the responsible producers by tripling the resources for recycling.
Emergencies in waste management
The bill also empowers the Ministry of Environment and Energy to deal with emergency situations in waste management, prevent environmental burden and protect public health, and at the same time contains provisions that, among other things, further strengthen waste management authorities. , pave the way for alternative management of pesticide packaging plastics and regulate other individual issues in waste management in the country.
