Tribute – Concert of the great composer Giannis Psathas – One of the most important contemporary creators of our time, John Psathas, is organized by the Deputy Mayor of Culture of Larisa Municipality and the Larisa Municipal Conservatory on Sunday, June 2. 2024 at 20:30 DO Concert is held as part of the series “Homage to outstanding Greeks of the world” curated and coordinated by pianist Ariadni Dimitriou, professor of piano and advanced theory courses at DOL.
It’s a celebration of Contemporary Music Creativity. The participation of the composer who will accompany the event, as well as other prominent personalities, is a great honor and historical moment for the city of Larisa.
Leading composer Yiannis Psathas lives and works in New Zealand, works as a composer and a professor of composition and composition at the Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand, and is the recipient of many international awards and prizes.
His diverse range of work combines many musical languages such as jazz, classical, Eastern European, Middle Eastern, Avant-garde, Rock and Electronic music.
In 2004, he undertook to compose music for the opening of the Athens Olympic Games, and his music was heard by over a billion viewers.
His artistic activity is global, as his works are widely represented in 50 countries and on 7 continents, even in Antarctica. His music is constantly performed on international stages by the world’s best musicians.
At this event, the composer will present his compositional work using video projections, followed by a discussion with musicologist and orchestra director Alexandros Harkiolakis, director of the “Friends of Music” Association of the Athens Concert Hall.
Then there will be his works, solo piano and solo percussion and works for percussion and piano, Ariadni Dimitriou on piano and Teodor Milkov on percussion – Theodore Milkov, member of the Athens State Orchestra and one of the most innovative percussionists. Internationally known for his revolutionary techniques and virtuoso skills, the repertoire of percussion instruments such as the marimba reaches new forms of performance.
