“The Heir”: A Return to Quebec and a Scary Event

A tough psychological thriller “Heir” screenwriter and director of the film Xavier Legrand It has Hitchcockian influences and will captivate the viewer. Events are held in three countries: France, Canada and Belgium. It is a 2023 build and is 112′ long. The viewer who chooses to watch this film will not regret it, because he will be fascinated by the story of the successful Ilyas and his troubled and absent father. Where everything seems ideal in the main character’s life, a series of difficulties will happen to him and cause him problems. What about the difficulties he will face and how much they will affect the life of young Ilyas;

The film’s plot finds the happy and successful Elias becoming the new artistic director of a famous French haute couture house. When he learns that his father, whom he has not seen for many years, has just died of a heart attack, he leaves the glamorous world of fashion for a while and heads to Quebec to settle his inheritance. But there, the young designer discovers that he has inherited something much worse than his father’s fragile heart…

Away from his parents, Elias, he returns to an unfamiliar home, awkwardly “feeling” the traces of the daily life of a man he knows almost nothing about. Legrand skillfully “weaves” the subtle emotional nuances of complex relationships with an episodic past, but no future, through small details and, above all, through the eyes of his expressive hero. Faced with unresolved issues that have forced him out of the house, the hero struggles to sort out the practical details of his father’s funeral until a nightmarish event turns everything upside down…

From this point on, the action builds to an unimaginable climax with frenetic rhythms and mind-blowing. A resonant commentary on the weight of parental “inheritance”, the relentless cycle of violence, human frailty and patriarchy.

How did you feel about the script of the film, as well as his role? Olive;

Marc-Andre Groden says that when I first read the script, I spoke to Xavier, the writer and director of the film, and after telling him that I loved the script and everything about the film. to him, “I’m sorry for my language, but how are you going to talk about this movie? How will you sell? What will your trailer be? It is very demanding to talk about the film without revealing what happened in it.” I think it’s always easy as an audience to look at something and say we’re going to react completely differently. But I watched a lot of documentaries on different topics like crimes. Sometimes when I read the news, I see that people react very strangely when they panic. It makes no sense and I think Elias, or Sebastian as we call him, is very fragile, insecure and anxious. When something terrible happens in his life, he loses his cool, loses his mind and panics. When people are in a panic, they do crazy things for the best of reasons. They try to do the right thing, but they can’t. And at the same time, you can’t run away from who you really are. The character (Elias) decided to move away from his family. He wanted nothing to do with them. She wanted to live her life and go and work in the fashion industry. So he traveled to Paris and literally created this persona in bed, the character of someone who has control, power, creativity and authority. And it really succeeded. But inside he is not really himself. Even his name was changed from Sebastian to Elias.

People often equate you with a character in a movie, how do you deal with that;

When I started doing a lot of interviews, I was very shy, especially when there were a lot of people around me. If I walk into a TV studio with an audience and a live interview, I panic. I am very shy. People thought I was very mysterious and serious. When I first started dating my boyfriend, people around him would ask him if I made him laugh. People have built this persona around me, this aura that I’m theatrical and complicated and serious and I never laugh and I do mystery movies and dramas, but that’s not me. I didn’t fight it, but in recent years I wanted people to know who I was. I realized that celebrities have a lot of preconceived notions about people because they are in the spotlight. In everyday life, such people present themselves in a certain way. It is very difficult to be satisfied with who you really are. Everyone wants to belong and stand out. For a long time, people thought that it was unique, but it is not. The shine that comes out is not really there. Even in the simplest tasks, you go home and sit on the toilet like everyone else.

It’s also known that the movie was shot in France, so you get used to the different accents he has to have as an actor.;

Because we have a certain accent in Quebec, we have our own way of looking at things, our own slang, and picking up a French accent is not that appreciated. We hate it. When I work in France, especially when I do interviews, I don’t want anyone to know that I have even a slight French accent. People hate it when actors go to France to work and come back with a bit of a French accent. It says a lot about the character of the actor.

Who knows his true potential;

When he meets this girl he studied with, he tells her that he sold a coffin and that it is someone else. He is the first to say that he really knows her. His assistant and lover do not recognize him. He knows Ilyas, not Sebastian. When he returned, no one recognized him because he had been gone for 20 years. This actress is fantastic, she is a very well known actress in Quebec and she is like the comic light of the film.

He helped you in your demanding role Xavier Legrand (writer and director) so that you can get through difficult scenes;

It’s the way I build character. This is Xavier’s way of building character. I shoot what is written in the script, but I did not expect the filming to be so demanding and complicated. We went deep into the darkness. I was horrified. I didn’t know what I was doing. We shot the whole house in one take and it was very demanding. I lost. I didn’t know if the footage was good or not. I just surrendered to Xavier, I trusted him 100%. I was physically and emotionally exhausted. It took away a lot of the layers of protection I had as an actor. I didn’t let myself go too much. Xavier was very good at letting me go a little longer. After we finished shooting, we finished the end of the film. I was very tired. I had no defense. When I wanted to cry, I really cried. He was a fantastic director. I feel very lucky. The movie was amazing. I didn’t want to disappoint him, so I gave up completely.

After 18 years, everyone is still talking about the movie Who do you think is the reason “Crazy” became such a big hit?;

“Crazy” has a good name because it really is crazy. We felt that we were doing something special and different when we made the film, but we never expected that it would spread so widely around the world. That’s why I worked in Europe. People have been talking about “Crazy” every week for the past 18 years. Everywhere I go, someone mentions it. I traveled a lot to promote the film and went to Spain, Madrid and Barcelona. It’s amazing how many people tell me after the shows that it really affected them. Jean-Marc Vallee was an incredibly talented creator, sensation, writer and director. It changed the lives of almost everyone who worked on this film. The artistic director of the film “Crazy” received an “Oscar”. Many people have international career because of this movie. When we saw where the film was going worldwide, we knew we couldn’t make another film like this. This is a once-in-a-lifetime type of project if you’re lucky. And I was very lucky.
