After carefully examining the files and auditioning all 17 candidates for the artistic direction of DI.PE.THE. The Board of Directors of Patras has elected Mr. Yiannis Kalatzopoulogias as Artistic Director for the next two years with the possibility of a one-year extension, according to the announcement.
His proposal serves the purposes, role and reasons for the establishment of DIPETHE.
To present their work not only in their headquarters but also in their wider regions. The purpose of our theater is to equip it with professionals living in our region, as well as to develop artistic creativity of amateurs, schoolchildren and students.
Our goal is also to keep the general public in touch with culture and art, to form a multifaceted, valuable program of events and activities from all our structures that will reach as many neighborhoods of Patras as possible and attract local artists. This includes both amateur creativity and socially sensitive groups of our citizens, such as the disabled, disabled, etc.
The Municipality of Patras puts the child at the center of its efforts, its comprehensive development from the very beginning, emphasizing the talents of its personality and believes that in the coming years the Patras children’s theater stage and its actions. DI. PE.THE. they can be remarkable for children’s theater.
We were very happy and touched to receive 17 very worthy nominations for the position of artistic director of DI.PE.THE. Patras. Deep knowledge of the subject, experience, artistic education, special knowledge and inclinations that make each candidate unique made the selection process extremely difficult.
Therefore, we want to thank the candidates all together and each of them individually, and we want to tell the 16 artists who were not necessarily selected that the doors of DI.PE.THE. is open and we really want to get in touch for suggestions, collaborations, ideas and exchange of ideas.
Yiannis Kalatzopoulos is an actor, director and writer with extensive experience and recognition in theater and cinema. In his long and “heavy” biography, we come across dozens of roles, because he is known as the “prodigy” of Greek cinema.
He played important roles of children with teachers and directors Alexis Minotis, Karolos Koun, Vassilis Diamantopoulos and others. He graduated from the Drama School at the same time as the High School and worked professionally with Myrat-Zoumboulakis, Manos Katrakis, Ellis Lampetis, National Theatre, KTHBE, etc. worked in troupes. Panteio and graduated from Athens Law School.
He attended directing courses at the AccademiaNazionaled’ ArteDramatica in Rome. He directed more than 80 productions at the National Theatre, State Theater of Northern Greece and seven (7) DI.PE.THE. of the whole country. Overall, his collaboration with DI.PE.THE. The whole of Greece has a vast and very important work to show.
He has published: “Royal Dress”, “The Wonder Child Giannakis”, “Aristophanes CHICKEN-PEACE-FROGS”, “Theatre Street”, “What Shall I Tell You My Sultan”, ” Antigone”, ‘Candelaio’ by GiordanoBruno and ‘Theatre for children and … intelligent adults’.
Yiannis Kalatzopoulos has a rich CV, a serious career in theater and directing, which was weighted in the selection among other CVs of candidates with serious work in this field. A well-known person in the field of theater, we believe, can serve the role and goals of DIPETHE Patras together with the Board of Directors, and in all areas design, main stage, Thespians’ Cart, Drama School, etc. these, in the final decision, played the role of his extensive writing and directing activities with children’s theater (from 1982 to 2005 he led the Contemporary Art Group where the Children’s Curtain operated, director of the Children’s Home of the National Theater, Greek President of the Theater Center for Children and Youth, etc. ). He adapted the works of Aristophanes, Shakespeare, Moliere, Ibsen, Lorca, Brecht, etc. for children.
Considering what we have said, and the universally acknowledged great artistic stature of Yiannis Kalatzopoulos, we believe that his selection will leave its artistic mark in Patras.
